Domna Hotel and Studios 2*+

Totally refurbished in 2003, the Domna represents some of the best value for money on the whole of Mykonos and, although not luxurious, provides its guests with a clean, comfortable base.

Situated about 20 minutes walk (1200 metres) from the town centre this small, intimate property has just 16 rooms, all with an ensuite bathroom, a TV, a fridge and a balcony or terrace. Every room is air conditioned (surprising but extremely welcome in a property so easy on the budget) and, if you go for the self catering option, your studio comes equipped with a basic kitchenette. Those who don’t fancy the self catering option can opt for the hotel option, where breakfast is provided but where they’ll be no self catering facilities in your room.

The small swimming pool although is a welcome diversion during those steamy Myconian afternoons. And, after cooling down in the inviting waters, you can enjoy a nibble or a tipple at the Domna’s friendly bar.

Maid service and the replacement of your bed linen takes place three times a week, while towels are changed twice.

Hotel Gorgona 3*

Owner, Joanna and her families’ warmth and geniality immediately put guests at their ease and set the tone for the whole holiday.

The hotel has a fantastic location – about 700 metres from the centre of town with views considered by many to be some of the best in Mykonos. Hotel Hermes 3*

Now in its sixth year, the Hermes has just 26 rooms, all of which are equipped with an ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, a fridge and satellite TV. All rooms have a balcony, and from this vantage point you can enjoy breathtaking views over the sparkling white town down to the sea.

You can choose between a twin and a double room though the double rooms are generally the first to sell out. Nonetheless, whichever type of sleeping arrangement you go for, you’ll find that your room is spacious, attractively decorated and very well furnished indeed, and this satisfying level of quality is mirrored throughout the whole property. The public rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and welcoming and the general atmosphere one of understated style and sophistication.

The hotel’s inviting kidney shaped pool gives you the chance to cool down in the clear blue water in between some serious sunbathing sessions, perhaps punctuated by a drink or a snack from the bar.

Maids will clean your room and change your towels every day and they’ll replace your bed linen three times a week.

Hotel Marios 3*

The Marios is a ‘boutique hotel’. It’s small (just 14 rooms), thoughtfully decorated with an impressive attention to detail, and provides the holidaymaker with a stylish yet economical base, a great deal of thought has gone into the hotel’s pleasing décor.

Every room – and you can choose between twin beds or a double – is air conditioned with an ensuite bathroom, a fridge and a television. Some rooms have balconies for a small supplement. Especially popular with singles, all guests going solo receive a twin or double for their own use,

Because of the Marios’ handy town centre location, there’s no room for a swimming pool. However, this lack of a pool is compensated for by a fantastic, state-of-the art American Jacuzzi in the hotel’s gardens, which themselves are bright, well-kept and perfect for chilling out or for enjoying a drink from the outdoor bar with your fellow Marios guests. You can also choose to have breakfast out in the gardens but, if you’d prefer to eat inside, the dining room is comfortable and – for the size of hotel – surprisingly spacious.

Hotel Alkyon 4*

An affordable four star option, the Hotel Alkyon is a regular favourite, offering a combination of four star quality, convenient location and terrific value.

Perched on a ridge above the town, the views from the hotel are stunning, and the walk down into the town itself takes about ten minutes

Officially rated as an A-class hotel, the gleaming, low rise Alkyon has 27 comfortable rooms. All have an ensuite bathroom, satellite TV, a balcony or terrace, remote control air conditioning, a phone, a small fridge and a safety deposit box for rent. Most rooms have sea views, but some don’t, so please try to book early if your view is important to you. Hotel Elysium 4*

Perhaps one of Mykonos’ most famous exclusive gay properties, the Elysium’s reputation stretches the world over, with guys from all over planet Earth coming here year in, year out.

Recently refurbished to an excellent standard, the Elysium offers a choice of standard and superior rooms, all of which are air conditioned and feature ensuite bathrooms, balcony or terrace, internet access, audio equipment, a fridge, a safe for you to rent and satellite TV. Superior rooms have PCs with webcams and are altogether bigger, with king sized beds. Some superior rooms also have a small kitchenette.

The hotel is an architectural delight, really pretty and kept beautifully clean by the excellent, friendly staff. The walk down the hill into town takes about ten minutes, for those times when you just want to take it easy, you’re bound to appreciate the hotel’s two bars, inviting pool and lavish spa (paid locally), featuring an indoor Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Athletic types will enjoy working out in the hotel’s well-equipped gym, but for something more relaxing you can indulge in some serious hydro massage.

Officially an A-class hotel, but well worth the extra plus sign we’ve added to our own classification, the Kouros is located about 400 metres from the centre of Mykonos Town.

Built on a cliff side overlooking the Aegean, the hotel is designed so that fabulous sea views can be witnessed from every room, at sunset, the view from your balcony can genuinely take your breath away.

Originally a stately villa, the 45 room Hotel Semeli is a welcome addition to our Mykonos programme and sits quite comfortably at the upper end of the market.

Thoughtfully decorated in the Myconian tradition, yet combining the building’s original features with all those modern touches you’d expect from a top quality property. The Semeli occupies an enviable location in the heart of the capital, just 400 metres from the port.
